Peter Axon was appointed as substantive Chief Executive Officer for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care System and the anticipated local NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) in October 2023.

Peter has 13 years’ experience at board level, across the NHS. He previously led the North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust’s continued journey of improvement achieving the highest rating of ‘outstanding’. The Trust is one of only two specialist mental health trusts in the NHS to have received this award from the Care Quality Commission. 

With a strong background in finance, Peter has previously held the roles of Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Executive at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, working across both the community physical and mental health foundation trusts.  

Before becoming Chief Executive Officer, Peter had led several system-wide programmes, including the development of place-based partnerships, and sponsoring the organisational development and leadership and diversity and inclusivity programmes.
