Our Digital Vision

We will use technology and data to make healthcare better for everyone in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Our goal is to improve patient care, support our healthcare workers, and encourage new and better ways of working.

What we’re doing

We are using digital tools to make healthcare easier to access, more efficient, and better for the future. Our focus includes:

  • Integrated Care – Expanding One Health & Care, our shared care record, so that health and social care services can work smoothly together.
  • Fair Access for Everyone – Making sure that digital services are easy to use and available to all.
  • Working Together – Using technology to help health and care teams across the region connect and collaborate.
  • Smarter Technology – Investing in advanced systems to help predict health issues, prevent problems, and personalise care.
  • Better Use of Data – Sharing knowledge and best practice so that healthcare keeps improving.

    Offer local people choice about how they can access and manage their health and care online, while helping those who are less able to use technology to still access their healthcare in the same ways as before

    Use more technology to treat people in their own homes and to help stop health issues from getting worse for people who are vulnerable

    Use technology to do tasks that take a long time or have to be done over and over. This will mean healthcare staff do not have to spend as much time doing tasks lots of times and can mean there are less mistakes e.g. summarising patient’s consultations into letter 

  • Artificial intelligence (AI)

    Use AI to help healthcare staff to safely make decisions, diagnose patients and carry out complex tasks 

Our Priorities

We are working on key areas that will make a real difference to how healthcare is delivered.

  • Instant Access to Patient Records – We will ensure doctors and nurses can see up-to-date health information, no matter where a patient is being treated.
  • Smarter Use of Data – Using data to spot trends, identify people who may need extra support, and improve services.
  • A Reliable Data System – Building strong and secure systems, like the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP), to support better care and decision-making.
  • Supporting Patients – Giving people easy-to-use digital tools to help them manage their own health and care.
  • Helping Healthcare Staff – Providing training and modern digital tools to help doctors, nurses, and care workers do their jobs more effectively.
  • Better Service Delivery – Using artificial intelligence (AI) and automation to improve how health services run.

One Health & Care is our regional digital care record. It helps doctors, nurses, and care professionals access the most up-to-date patient information, ensuring safer, more coordinated care.

The NHS Federated Data Platform allows NHS teams to securely share and use data to improve healthcare planning and patient care. By bringing together information from different systems, it helps staff make better decisions, coordinate care more effectively, and provide proactive, patient-focused support.
